A WOMAN OF FAITH

WITH A BOUNDLESS HEART

Little Marguerite took her first steps in Varennes, where she was born on October 15, 1701. Born into a wealthy family, she nevertheless grew up poor after the death of her father, and continued in poverty later, after her husband died, debt-ridden. When she was but 29, with two children to feed, she managed to pay back all his debts, and turned to a life of prayer and service to the sick and the poor.

Her chosen life was judged harshly by her peers, and she faced hostility even from within her own family. However, she kept to her chosen path, even though she knew not where it would lead. She trusted God to light her path in a society where the destitute — orphans, the ill, the handicapped — were many.

If Marguerite’s path was strewn with pitfalls, battles and hard work, it also brought her blessings that enabled her to move forward, step by step, as she worked for the greater good of disadvantaged people.
