TOMB OF SAINT MARGUERITE D’YOUVILLE

Within the Basilica of Saint Anne of Varennes, the chapel is just a few steps from the museum dedicated to Marguerite d’Youville. This simple, eloquent and elegant spot, with the image of the Mother of Universal Charity, invites reverence and prayer.

The granite tomb containing the mortal remains of Saint Marguerite d’Youville recalls the colour of the habit worn by the Sisters of Charity, the congregation she inspired. The bouquet of daisies represents her continuing influence.

Close to the tomb is a statue of the saint holding a daisy with a broken stem, representing the people wounded by life to whom she brought succor. In this space that invites contemplation, several lanterns illuminate this space with sacred flames that carry prayer intentions to Saint Marguerite d’Youville.
